Posting A Good Number
Good news out of the Rick Noriega for Senate camp today. His exploratory campaign will report raising $570,000 in the two months or so since getting started -- not bad.
It's not Mikal Watts money, but then Noriega doesn't have huge personal wealth to invest in the campaign, nor, frankly does he need it. The Noriega campaign needs enough funding in the primary to get its basic message out, which should suffice. This first fundraising report should quiet some of the naysayers who have maintained Noriega is not viable because he cannot raise money.
We are pleased for Team Noriega, and we are not surprised.

This is not about your current topic, but I was wondering if you had any thoughts about David Broder's recent Chronicle piece concerning the main stream Democratic Party member's embrace of Hillary Clinton, and the limited effectiveness of the netroot's activism in support support of Obama & Edwards?
Also Dowd's comments in today's opinion section seem very strange to me in that the issues of the campaign seem to be irrelevant to her, and she is instead focused on the political infighting and oddities of the Clinton duo.

Did not read the Broder piece, but his commentary of late seems to miss the mark. (Remember his prediction of a political resurgeance for GW Bush several months back?) There is no question HRC is the current frontrunner, and she may well win the nomination. I do not believe, however, this is an indictment of the netroots. In fact, her campaign, along with the others, has increasingly sought to leverage that community to its best advantage. Additionally, Obama wouldn't even be in the ballgame without the support, particularly financial, that he has received from the netroots.
As for MoDo, her writing, while witty at times, is virtually always devoid of substance. Recall her obsessively negative coverage of Al Gore during the 2000 campaign. She's not one of my favorites.
